- ¼ cup lemon juice
- ¼ cup water
- ¼ teaspoon almond extract
- 1 14-ounce prepared angel food cake
- 16 ounces cream cheese (2 8-ounce packages), softened
- ⅔ cup sugar
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 4 cups blueberries
- 4 cups strawberries, sliced
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine ¼ cup sugar, ¼ cup lemon juice, ¼ cup water, and ¼ teaspoon almond extract. Bring to a simmer and stir until sugar is dissolved. Set aside to cool.
- Tear the angel food cake into bite-sized pieces.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with ⅔ cup sugar until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- Fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture to create the filling.
- In a large trifle dish, layer half of the cake pieces, drizzle with half of the lemon glaze, then spread half of the cream mixture over the top.
- Scatter 2 cups of blueberries and 2 cups of sliced strawberries over the cream layer.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining cake, glaze, cream mixture, and fruit.
- Chill for at least 2 hours before serving for best flavor and texture.
