Ingredients

  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 14-ounce prepared angel food cake
  • 16 ounces cream cheese (2 8-ounce packages), softened
  • ⅔ cup sugar
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 4 cups blueberries
  • 4 cups strawberries, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine ¼ cup sugar, ¼ cup lemon juice, ¼ cup water, and ¼ teaspoon almond extract. Bring to a simmer and stir until sugar is dissolved. Set aside to cool.
  2. Tear the angel food cake into bite-sized pieces.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with ⅔ cup sugar until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture to create the filling.
  6. In a large trifle dish, layer half of the cake pieces, drizzle with half of the lemon glaze, then spread half of the cream mixture over the top.
  7. Scatter 2 cups of blueberries and 2 cups of sliced strawberries over the cream layer.
  8. Repeat the layers with the remaining cake, glaze, cream mixture, and fruit.
  9. Chill for at least 2 hours before serving for best flavor and texture.
