Description
A comforting and hearty cabbage roll casserole with layers of tender cabbage, seasoned ground beef, rice, and tomato sauce baked to perfection.

- 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup uncooked rice
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook rice according to package instructions and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil and sauté onion and garlic until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- In a large pot, boil chopped cabbage in salted water for 5 minutes, then drain well.
- In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half the cabbage, then half the beef mixture, then half the rice. Repeat layers.
- Pour beef broth evenly over the casserole.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, sprinkle shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese on top before the final bake.
