Description

A light yet deeply comforting Chinese soup featuring tender pork meatballs and delicate winter melon simmered in a savory, aromatic broth.


Ingredients

  • 500 g winter melon, peeled and cubed
  • 250 g ground pork
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground pork, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, egg white, garlic, and ginger.
  2. Mix well and form the mixture into small meatballs.
  3. Bring the chicken broth to a gentle boil in a pot.
  4. Add the winter melon cubes and simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Carefully add the meatballs to the pot.
  6. Simmer for 10–12 minutes until meatballs are fully cooked and winter melon is tender.
  7. Season with salt and white pepper to taste.
  8. Remove from heat and garnish with green onions and cilantro before serving.

Notes

Winter melon becomes translucent and very tender when cooked. Avoid overboiling to keep the meatballs juicy.
