Description

Festive, colorful, and chewy dessert bars packed with candied fruit and a sweet buttery base – perfect for the holiday season.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup red candied cherries, halved
  • 1 cup green candied cherries, halved
  • 1 cup chopped dates

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually stir dry ingredients into wet mixture.
  6. Fold in pecans, red and green candied cherries, and dates.
  7. Spread mixture evenly into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until golden brown and set.
  9. Allow to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
  10. Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
