Description

A festive and tangy twist on the classic apple pie, this Cranberry Apple Pie blends sweet apples with tart cranberries in a flaky homemade crust.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 3 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix cranberries, apples, both sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice until combined.
  3. Line a 9-inch pie dish with one pie crust and trim edges.
  4. Pour the fruit mixture into the crust and dot with butter.
  5. Cover with second crust, seal and flute edges, and cut small slits for steam to escape.
  6. Brush the top with beaten egg.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until crust is golden and filling is bubbly.
  8. Cool at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

You can use a mix of tart and sweet apples for better flavor balance. Protect crust edges with foil if browning too quickly.
