Description

A rich and naturally sweet date BBQ sauce made with tender dates, warm spices, and smoky flavors, perfect for grilling, dipping, or glazing meats and vegetables.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup pitted dates, chopped
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Add the chopped dates and water to a saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until dates are very soft.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a blender and blend until smooth.
  4. Return the date puree to the saucepan.
  5. Stir in the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, tomato paste, and molasses.
  6. Add the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and chili powder.
  7. Season with salt to taste.
  8. Simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  9. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  10. Cool slightly before using.

Notes

For a thinner sauce, add a little water while blending. This sauce stores well in the refrigerator for up to one week.
