Description

A quick and flavorful Mongolian-inspired ground beef bowl with savory-sweet sauce, served over rice for an easy weeknight dinner.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup beef broth (or water)
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water (slurry)
  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 1/2 cup sliced green onions
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
  3. Stir in garlic and ginger, cooking for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add soy sauce, brown sugar, beef broth, and hoisin sauce. Stir well to combine.
  5. Mix cornstarch with water to make a slurry, then stir it into the skillet to thicken the sauce.
  6. Cook for another 2–3 minutes until sauce is glossy and beef is coated.
  7. Serve over cooked white rice and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

You can swap white rice for cauliflower rice to make it low-carb. Add steamed broccoli or snap peas for extra veggies.
