A truly unforgettable dessert experience!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 (15.25-ounce) package yellow cake mix
  • 1 (3.4-ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup dark rum, divided
  • 3/4 cup water, divided
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, vanilla pudding mix, eggs, 1/2 cup rum, water, vegetable oil, and white sugar. Mix well until smooth.
  3. Stir in the chopped walnuts.
  4. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. While the cake is baking, prepare the rum glaze. In a small saucepan, combine the remaining 1/2 cup rum and melted butter. Heat over medium heat until slightly warmed and combined.
  6. Once the cake is out of the oven, immediately poke holes all over the top with a fork.
  7. Slowly pour the rum glaze evenly over the warm cake, allowing it to soak in.
  8. Let the cake cool completely before serving.

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, substitute the rum with an equal amount of apple juice or pineapple juice. You can also add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the glaze for extra flavor. Store leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week. A dusting of powdered sugar before serving adds a beautiful finishing touch.
