- 3 tbsp Oil or ghee
- 1½ cup Warm water (add more water if needed)
- Seasonings:
- ½ tsp Turmeric powder
- 1½ tsp Garam masala powder
- ½ tsp Cumin powder (Jeera powder)
- 1 tsp Chilli powder (Or paprika powder)
- 1½ tsp Salt (Or add salt according to your taste)
- ¼ tsp Black pepper
- To Serve:
- Cooked basmati rice (Naan/Chappati or Flat bread)
- Coriander/Cilantro chopped (for garnish)
- Fresh chilli sliced (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Heat oil or ghee in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped shallots and sauté until translucent (about 3 minutes).
- Add ginger and garlic paste, stirring constantly for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned (5-6 minutes). Drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in all the dry spices (turmeric, garam masala, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper). Mix well to coat the meat.
- Add chopped tomatoes and tomato puree. Cook for 2-3 minutes until tomatoes soften.
- Add potato cubes and warm water. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low.
- Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes until potatoes are tender, stirring occasionally.
- If the curry is too thick, add a little more water. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and sliced chilies before serving.
- Serve hot with basmati rice or warm naan bread.
Notes
Tips: For extra flavor, toast whole spices (cumin seeds, coriander seeds) before grinding them. Substitutions: Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version. Sweet potatoes can replace regular potatoes. Storage: Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat gently with a splash of water to loosen the sauce.
