Description

A flavorful Italian twist on classic meatloaf, packed with herbs, Parmesan, and marinara sauce, then baked to perfection with a gooey mozzarella topping.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 cup Italian-style bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup marinara sauce, divided
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, milk, eggs, onion, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  4. Form the mixture into a loaf shape and place it in a loaf pan or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Spread half of the marinara sauce over the top of the loaf.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven, spread the remaining marinara sauce over the loaf and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  8. Return to oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  9. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.

Notes

Use freshly grated Parmesan and mozzarella for best flavor. Serve with garlic bread or a side of pasta for a complete Italian dinner.
