Description
A hearty and flavorful twist on classic meatloaf, combining Italian sausage, ground beef, herbs, and gooey mozzarella, topped with rich marinara.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 Tablespoon oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 lb. Italian sausage
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
- ½ cup Parmesan cheese
- 8 oz. shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- 2 cups marinara sauce, divided
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat and sauté chopped onion and bell pepper until softened. Let cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, sautéed vegetables, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, oregano, eggs, bread crumbs, Parmesan, and half of the mozzarella.
- Mix until well combined and shape into a loaf on a lined baking sheet or place in a loaf pan.
- Spread 1 cup of marinara sauce over the top.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes or until cooked through.
- Top with remaining marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. Return to oven for 5-10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, use spicy Italian sausage. Letting the meatloaf rest helps keep it juicy when sliced.
