Description

A hearty and flavorful twist on classic meatloaf, combining Italian sausage, ground beef, herbs, and gooey mozzarella, topped with rich marinara.


Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 lb. Italian sausage
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese
  • 8 oz. shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 2 cups marinara sauce, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat and sauté chopped onion and bell pepper until softened. Let cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, sautéed vegetables, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, oregano, eggs, bread crumbs, Parmesan, and half of the mozzarella.
  4. Mix until well combined and shape into a loaf on a lined baking sheet or place in a loaf pan.
  5. Spread 1 cup of marinara sauce over the top.
  6. Bake for 45-55 minutes or until cooked through.
  7. Top with remaining marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. Return to oven for 5-10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, use spicy Italian sausage. Letting the meatloaf rest helps keep it juicy when sliced.
