Ingredients

  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Boil potatoes in a large pot of salted water until fork tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  2. Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth. Set aside and keep warm.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft.
  4. Add garlic and sauté for 1 minute.
  5. Stir in ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  6. Sprinkle flour over the beef and stir well to coat.
  7. Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  8. Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  9. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until gravy thickens.
  10. Spoon the ground beef gravy over a bed of mashed potatoes and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

You can swap beef broth for chicken or vegetable broth depending on preference or availability.
