Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
- 1–1/2 cups granulated sugar, divided
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup 2% milk
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy. Gradually add 1 cup of the sugar, beating until well combined.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Stir in the chocolate chips and pecans.
- In a small bowl, combine the remaining 1/2 cup sugar with the cinnamon.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle with half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Pour the remaining batter over the top and sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cool completely before cutting and serving.
Notes
For an extra decadent touch, drizzle with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk. You can substitute walnuts for pecans if preferred. Store leftover coffee cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week. To prevent sticking, line the baking pan with parchment paper before greasing and flouring.
