Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 11/2 cups granulated sugar, divided
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup 2% milk
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy. Gradually add 1 cup of the sugar, beating until well combined.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips and pecans.
  7. In a small bowl, combine the remaining 1/2 cup sugar with the cinnamon.
  8. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle with half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Pour the remaining batter over the top and sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Let cool completely before cutting and serving.

Notes

For an extra decadent touch, drizzle with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk. You can substitute walnuts for pecans if preferred. Store leftover coffee cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week. To prevent sticking, line the baking pan with parchment paper before greasing and flouring.
