A classic comfort food dish featuring juicy beef patties smothered in a rich mushroom and onion gravy.
Ingredients

- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/3 cup bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp mustard powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 medium onion, sliced
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Shape into 4 oval patties.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and onions. Cook until softened.
- Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and stir for 1 minute.
- Slowly whisk in beef broth and ketchup. Cook until thickened.
- Return patties to skillet, spoon gravy over top, cover, and simmer for 10-12 minutes.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes or rice.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a splash of red wine to the gravy. Best served with creamy mashed potatoes or buttered noodles.
