Description
Discover the bright, tangy flavors of authentic Mexican salsa verde. Made with fresh tomatillos, crisp serrano peppers, and zesty lime, this vibrant green salsa adds a burst of flavor to tacos, chips, and grilled dishes. Perfect for summer gatherings, this easy‑to‑make recipe brings a taste of the Southwest to your table.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound tomatillos
- 2–3 serrano peppers (or use jalapeno peppers for a milder salsa verde)
- 3 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1 small white onion, chopped (red onion is good, too)
- ½ cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
Instructions
- Remove husks from tomatillos and rinse them under cold water.
- In a saucepan, combine tomatillos and peppers, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook until tomatillos are soft, about 5‑7 minutes.
- Drain and transfer tomatillos, peppers, onion, garlic, and cilantro to a blender.
- Blend until smooth, then stir in lime juice, salt, and adjust seasoning.
- Serve fresh with chips or as a topping; store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Notes
For a milder flavor, substitute serrano peppers with jalapenos. If you prefer a smoother texture, blend longer or strain the salsa. This salsa pairs wonderfully with grilled chicken, fish tacos, or as a dip for tortilla chips. Keep refrigerated and consume within five days for best flavor.
