  • 23 serrano peppers (or use jalapeno peppers for a milder salsa verde)
  • 3 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 small white onion, chopped (red onion is good, too)
  • ½ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice

Instructions

  1. Remove husks from tomatillos and rinse them under cold water.
  2. In a saucepan, combine tomatillos and peppers, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook until tomatillos are soft, about 5‑7 minutes.
  3. Drain and transfer tomatillos, peppers, onion, garlic, and cilantro to a blender.
  4. Blend until smooth, then stir in lime juice, salt, and adjust seasoning.
  5. Serve fresh with chips or as a topping; store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Notes

For a milder flavor, substitute serrano peppers with jalapenos. If you prefer a smoother texture, blend longer or strain the salsa. This salsa pairs wonderfully with grilled chicken, fish tacos, or as a dip for tortilla chips. Keep refrigerated and consume within five days for best flavor.
