Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (28 oz each) whole San Marzano tomatoes
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
  • ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves, torn
  • 1 tsp honey or sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in Dutch oven over medium-low heat.
  2. Add garlic and red pepper flakes, sauté until fragrant (about 1 minute).
  3. Crush tomatoes by hand into pot, add all juices.
  4. Stir in salt and bring to gentle simmer.
  5. Cook uncovered 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Remove from heat, stir in basil and honey (if using).

Notes

Tips: For smoother sauce, blend with immersion blender. Substitutions: Use 1 tbsp tomato paste if you prefer thicker sauce. Storage: Refrigerate up to 1 week or freeze up to 3 months in airtight containers.
