Description

A soft and fluffy homemade sandwich bread that’s perfect for toasting, sandwiches, or enjoying fresh with butter.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water and sprinkle the yeast over the top. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter to the flour and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
  7. Place in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan and let rise for another 30-40 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  10. Let cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use milk instead of water. Store in an airtight container for freshness.
