  • Author: Crystal
  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

A hearty, comforting Irish soup that warms the soul with tender vegetables and smoky ham. Perfect for chilly evenings and family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups Chicken Stock
  • 1 Ham Hock
  • 3 cups Shredded Cabbage
  • 2 cups Thinly Sliced Potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Cream or Milk (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine chicken stock and ham hock; bring to a gentle boil.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes to infuse flavor.
  3. Add shredded cabbage and thinly sliced potatoes; continue simmering until vegetables are tender, about 15 minutes.
  4. Season with salt and pepper, and stir in cream or milk if using for extra richness.
  5. Serve hot, garnished with a sprinkle of fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, omit the ham hock and use vegetable stock. Add a pinch of thyme for extra aroma. Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat gently on the stove.
