Description

Ingredients

  • 4 Italian sausages (sweet or spicy)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add sausages and cook until browned on all sides, about 7-8 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add sliced onions and peppers. Sauté for 5-6 minutes until softened.
  4. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Return sausages to the skillet and add crushed tomatoes, oregano, and red pepper flakes.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sausages are cooked through and sauce thickens.
  8. Garnish with fresh basil before serving if desired.

Notes

Serve over hoagie rolls, pasta, or enjoy on its own. Adjust spice level with sweet or hot sausages.
