Description

A hearty and comforting classic made with seasoned ground meat and vegetables, topped with creamy mashed potatoes.


Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add diced onion and garlic, sauté until soft.
  4. Add ground meat and cook until browned.
  5. Stir in carrots and cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Add tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth. Simmer until thickened.
  7. Stir in peas and season with salt and pepper.
  8. Transfer meat mixture to a baking dish.
  9. Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the top.
  10. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese if using.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
  12. Let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

You can use leftover mashed potatoes. Add herbs like thyme or rosemary for extra flavor.
