Description

A classic Creole dish packed with bold flavors, featuring tender shrimp simmered in a rich, spiced tomato sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 14 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup vegetable or chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the onion, bell pepper, and celery.
  2. Mince the garlic.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or sauté pan.
  4. Sauté the onion, bell pepper, and celery until softened.
  5. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste.
  7. Pour in the broth and mix well.
  8. Add paprika, cayenne pepper, oregano, and the bay leaf.
  9. Season with salt and black pepper.
  10. Simmer over low heat for 20 minutes.
  11. Add the shrimp and cook for 4–5 minutes until pink and cooked through.
  12. Remove the bay leaf.
  13. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

Traditionally served over white rice to soak up the flavorful Creole sauce.
