Description

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Butter, for toasting buns

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic, sauté until softened.
  3. Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Simmer on low for 10–15 minutes until thickened.
  5. Toast hamburger buns with a little butter.
  6. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto buns and serve warm.

Notes

For a richer flavor, let the mixture simmer longer. You can also substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
