Ingredients

- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- Butter, for toasting buns
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic, sauté until softened.
- Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer on low for 10–15 minutes until thickened.
- Toast hamburger buns with a little butter.
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto buns and serve warm.
Notes
For a richer flavor, let the mixture simmer longer. You can also substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
