Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 ½ cups beef broth
  • 4 medium carrots, sliced
  • 3 medium potatoes, diced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground paprika
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 large bay leaf

Instructions

  1. Coat beef stew meat with flour, salt, and pepper
  2. Place coated meat in slow cooker
  3. Add beef broth, carrots, potatoes, onion, celery, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, garlic, and bay leaf
  4. Stir to combine all ingredients
  5. Cover and cook on Low for 7-8 hours or High for 3-4 hours
  6. Remove bay leaf before serving

Notes

Tips: For thicker gravy, mix 1 tbsp cornstarch with 2 tbsp water and stir into stew during last 30 minutes of cooking. Substitutions: Use sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes, or add peas during last hour of cooking. Storage: Refrigerate in airtight containers for up to 4 days. Freezes well for up to 3 months.
