Description

Soft, fluffy sourdough potato dinner buns with a tender crumb, perfect for any meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 cup mashed potatoes (plain)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Combine sourdough starter, mashed potatoes, warm milk, sugar, butter, and egg in a bowl.
  2. Mix in flour, salt, and baking powder until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8–10 minutes.
  4. Cover and let rise until doubled.
  5. Divide the dough into equal portions and shape into buns.
  6. Place on a baking sheet and allow to rise again until puffy.
  7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 18–20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

For extra softness, brush the tops with melted butter after baking.
