Description

These Thanksgiving Potatoes are rich, creamy, buttery, and whipped to fluffy perfection. The ultimate mashed potatoes recipe that’s destined to be the star of your holiday table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup whole milk (warmed)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional: chopped chives or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold salted water.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15–20 minutes or until fork-tender.
  3. Drain and return the potatoes to the pot.
  4. Add butter, warm milk, sour cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Use a hand mixer or potato masher to whip until smooth and fluffy.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  7. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with chopped chives or parsley if desired.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For ultra-smooth potatoes, use a ricer. Warm milk and softened butter help the potatoes absorb moisture better and stay creamy.
