Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (28 oz each) whole San Marzano tomatoes
  • 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced

  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add diced onion and cook until soft and translucent.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add tomato paste and cook for another minute to deepen the flavor.
  5. Pour in the San Marzano tomatoes, crushing them gently with a spoon.
  6. Stir in oregano, sugar, salt, and black pepper.
  7. Add fresh basil leaves.
  8. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 45–60 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Notes

For the best flavor, let the sauce rest 30 minutes before serving. San Marzano tomatoes deliver superior sweetness and richness.
