  • Author: Crystal
  • Total Time: 25 mins
  • Yield: 2 cups 1x

Description

This incredibly flavorful vegan barbecue sauce comes together in minutes! Made with pantry staples, it’s the perfect combination of tangy, sweet, and smoky. Gluten-free adaptable and perfect for grilling season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup tomato paste
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp liquid smoke
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan and whisk until smooth.
  2. Bring mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently.
  3. Reduce heat to low and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  4. Taste and adjust seasonings – add more maple syrup for sweetness or vinegar for tang.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool completely before transferring to an airtight container.

Notes

Tips: Sauce thickens as it cools. For spicier version, increase cayenne pepper.
Substitutions: Use agave instead of maple syrup, or tamari instead of soy sauce.
Storage: Keeps in refrigerator for 2 weeks or freeze for 3 months.
