- 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, combine sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and water.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens and becomes bubbly.
- Add the sliced apples and reduce the heat to low.
- Simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples soften.
- Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice.
- Let the filling cool before using in pies or storing in an airtight container in the fridge.
Notes
Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor. Can be stored in the fridge for up to a week or frozen for later use.
