Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and water.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens and becomes bubbly.
  3. Add the sliced apples and reduce the heat to low.
  4. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples soften.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice.
  6. Let the filling cool before using in pies or storing in an airtight container in the fridge.

Notes

Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor. Can be stored in the fridge for up to a week or frozen for later use.
