A hearty casserole that blends the classic flavors of a Philly cheesesteak with comforting baked layers of beef, cheese, and Bisquick batter.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups Bisquick baking mix (mix with 1 cup of water)
  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 3 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • 3/4 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese (sharp or medium)
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté onion and green pepper until softened.
  3. Add ground beef, breaking it up, and cook until browned; drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in garlic powder, oregano, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper; cook 1 minute.
  5. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
  6. Combine Bisquick with 1 cup water in a bowl, stirring until smooth.
  7. Spread the beef mixture in a greased casserole dish and pour the Bisquick batter over it.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of softened cream cheese over the batter and swirl gently.
  9. Layer provolone slices and shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top.
  10. Bake for 30‑35 minutes, until cheese is melted and golden and the casserole is set.
  11. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra crispiness, broil the casserole for 2‑3 minutes at the end. Serve with a side salad for a complete meal.
