  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Chopped parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up, until browned; drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in onion, garlic, and bell pepper; sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add paprika, black pepper, salt, and dried oregano; cook 1 minute.
  5. Mix in crushed tomatoes; simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
  7. Transfer the beef mixture to a greased 9‑inch baking dish.
  8. Evenly sprinkle shredded mozzarella and cheddar over the top.
  9. Bake for 20‑25 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne or use pepper jack cheese. This casserole pairs well with a simple green salad.
