Spicy, sweet, and tangy glazed chicken wings perfect for celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Easy to make with pantry staples and a fizzy soda glaze.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon canola or vegetable oil
- 2 1/2 lb chicken wings, cut apart at joints, wing tips discarded
- 2 medium green onions, thinly sliced including tops (about 2 tablespoons)
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 2 cans (12 oz each) lemon-lime carbonated beverage
- 1 can (4.5 oz) Old El Paso™ chopped green chiles, drained
- 1 package (1 oz) Old El Paso™ taco seasoning mix
- 10 lettuce leaves, if desired
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Pat chicken wings dry with paper towels and place on a baking sheet lined with foil.
- In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, lime juice, and half of the soda to create a glaze.
- Brush wings with the glaze, reserving the rest for basting.
- Roast wings for 25 minutes, basting every 8 minutes with the remaining soda glaze.
- While wings roast, heat oil in a skillet over medium heat, add sliced green onions and red pepper flakes, sauté 1 minute.
- Add the remaining soda, chopped green chiles, and taco seasoning to the skillet; simmer 3 minutes to thicken.
- When wings are cooked through and caramelized, remove from oven and toss with the skillet sauce.
- Serve wings on a platter with lettuce leaves on the side, if desired.
Notes
For extra crispiness, broil wings for 2-3 minutes at the end. Adjust heat by adding more red pepper flakes.
