Description

This hearty ground beef chili is the ultimate game day fuel – packed with smoky spices, three kinds of beans, and rich tomato flavor. Simmered to perfection, it’s guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser that’ll have everyone coming back for seconds!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable or canola oil
  • 2 onions (chopped)
  • 1 red bell pepper (cored, seeded, and chopped)
  • 4 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can beef broth
  • 1 (35-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15.5 ounce) can black beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 1 (15.5 ounce) can garbanzo beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Hot cooked rice (to serve)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon (about 8 minutes). Drain excess fat.
  2. Add onions and bell pepper. Cook until softened (5-7 minutes). Stir in garlic and cook until fragrant (1 minute).
  3. Add chili powder, cumin, red pepper flakes, and smoked paprika. Toast spices for 1 minute while stirring constantly.
  4. Stir in tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes until darkened slightly.
  5. Pour in beef broth, using your spoon to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom.
  6. Add crushed tomatoes, black beans, garbanzo beans, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer.
  7. Reduce heat to low, cover partially, and simmer gently for 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
  8. Season with salt to taste. Serve over hot rice with your favorite toppings.

Notes

Tips: For extra heat, add diced jalapeños with the peppers. Substitutions: Use ground turkey instead of beef. Storage: Refrigerate in airtight containers for up to 5 days or freeze for 3 months.
