- 1 pound lean ground beef
- ½ cup red bell pepper finely diced
- ½ cup green bell pepper finely diced
- ½ cup onion finely diced
- 2 cups bbq sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 12 slices cheddar cheese
- 12 Hawaiian Rolls
- 2 tablespoons butter melted
- Sesame seeds optional topping
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef, breaking it up and cooking until browned.
- Drain excess fat, then stir in garlic, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, and onion; cook until softened.
- Add brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, chili powder, and BBQ sauce; simmer for 5 minutes.
- Season the mixture with salt and pepper, then spoon it onto the bottom halves of the Hawaiian rolls.
- Top each with a slice of cheddar cheese.
- Place the roll tops on and brush the tops with melted butter.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds if desired and serve immediately.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a splash of apple cider vinegar or a pinch of smoked paprika to the sauce.
