Ingredients

- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp water
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- pinch of black pepper
Instructions
- Combine soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, garlic, and ginger in a small saucepan.
- Add rice vinegar and stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
- In a separate cup, mix cornstarch with water to create a smooth slurry.
- Pour the slurry into the saucepan and stir well.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
- Remove from heat and stir in sesame oil and a pinch of black pepper.
- Allow the sauce to cool slightly before using or transferring to a storage container.
Notes
Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. For a gluten‑free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce. Add a splash of lime juice for extra brightness.
