A quick and flavorful Thai-inspired stir-fry featuring ground beef, aromatic Thai basil, and a savory sauce, served over steamed rice with a fried egg.


Ingredients

  • 16 oz ground beef
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Thai chilies, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup Thai basil leaves
  • Neutral oil, for cooking
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup sliced bell pepper
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • Cooked jasmine rice, for serving
  • 1 fried egg per serving

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned, about 5-6 minutes.
  3. Stir in garlic and sliced Thai chilies; cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add bell pepper and stir-fry for 2 minutes.
  5. Pour in the sauce mixture of dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar; stir to coat the meat.
  6. Cook for another 2 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
  7. Remove from heat and fold in Thai basil leaves until wilted.
  8. Serve the stir-fry over steamed jasmine rice and top each portion with a fried egg.

Notes

For extra heat, add more sliced chilies. Adjust sugar to taste for a balanced flavor.
