Description

Tender, flavorful cube steak slow cooked in a rich onion and mushroom gravy. This easy comfort food recipe is perfect for busy days and pairs wonderfully with mashed potatoes or rice.


Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs cube steak
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of onion soup
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (optional, for thickening)
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season cube steaks with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Place sliced onions in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  3. Layer cube steaks over the onions.
  4. In a bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup, cream of onion soup, beef broth, onion soup mix, and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Pour the mixture over the steak in the slow cooker.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours or on high for 4 hours, until steaks are fork-tender.
  7. If you prefer a thicker gravy, mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl, then stir into the sauce during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  8. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

For added flavor, sear the cube steaks in a skillet before placing them in the slow cooker. Leftovers reheat well and taste even better the next day.
