- 6–7 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix apples, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Let sit for 10 minutes.
- Roll out one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish.
- Fill with the apple mixture and dot with butter.
- Place the second pie crust over the filling, sealing and crimping the edges.
- Brush the top with egg wash and cut small slits for ventilation.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
- Cool for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
For best results, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
