Description

A timeless homemade apple pie with a flaky crust and a warm, spiced apple filling, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 67 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix apples, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Roll out one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish.
  4. Fill with the apple mixture and dot with butter.
  5. Place the second pie crust over the filling, sealing and crimping the edges.
  6. Brush the top with egg wash and cut small slits for ventilation.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
  8. Cool for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

For best results, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
